Ya debería ser un árbol

Y sin embargo me siento como un retoño

Debería ser sabio

Y sin embargo a menudo siento que no sé nada

Debería ser permanente

Y sin embargo me siento temporal, sin aprender,

Con un esperanzador nuevo crecimiento por delante

Mis ramas deberían sentirse viejas

Y es verdad, que lo hacen.

Pero aún no sé qué árbol soy

O en qué dirección crecer

Es cierto, que si se corta abierto hasta el corazón ,

Verías los anillos del crecimiento.

Irregular, con signos de cada año bueno, y cada año terrible.

Ya debería ser un árbol capaz de resistir cada tormenta,

Pero cada viento, cada sequía, cada falta de cuidado...

puede dejarme sin aliento, marchitándome a la luz.

Ya debería ser un árbol

Con raíces lo bastante fuertes para sostenerme,

Pero por dentro mi corazón y mi alma son siempre verdes y vulnerables.

And yet i feel like a sapling

I should be wise

And yet i often feel I know nothing

I should be permanent

And yet I feel temporary, unlearned,

With a hopeful new growth ahead

My branches should feel old

,and its true, that they do.

But I still don’t know what tree I am

Or which way to grow

It´s true, that if cut open to the core ,

You would see the rings of growth.

Irregular, with signs of each good, and each terrible year.

I should ,by now ,be a tree that can withstand each storm,

But each wind, each drought , each lack of care

Can leave me gasping for breath, wilting in the light.

I should be a tree by now

With roots strong enough to hold me up,

But inside my heart and soul is always evergreen and vulnerable.
